Chord Sheets & Transpose

Each song has a content editor where you write lyrics and chords together. Chords are marked inline using bracket notation, and the app renders them above the lyrics at the correct position.

Use square brackets to mark chords:

[Am]Verse lyrics here [G]more lyrics [C]

This renders with chords positioned above the lyrics at the exact character position. The brackets are stripped in the display — you see clean lyrics with chords aligned above.

For instrumental sections or intros, use chord-only lines:

[Em] [G] [D] [A]

Mark sections clearly so you can find your place at a glance:

[Verse 1]
[Am]Sitting on the [G]dock of the [C]bay
[Chorus]
[G]Watching the [Em]tide roll [C]away [D]

Transpose any song up or down using the +/- buttons in the song view.

Transpose is a preview — it changes what you see without modifying the underlying chord data. One source of truth, personalized display.

For longer songs, enable two-column layout to fit the entire song on one screen without scrolling. Toggle this per song in the editor. Works best on tablets and wide screens.

Instrumentalists who only need chords can enable “Hide Lyrics” in their personal preferences. The chord sheet shows only chord markers and section labels — no lyrics clutter.

Vocalists who only need lyrics can enable “Hide Chords” in their personal preferences. The view shows clean lyrics with section structure.

Adjust text size (small, medium, large) in your personal preferences. On touch devices, pinch-to-zoom is also available for quick adjustments on stage.

Each song can have a preferred content type view — chord sheet, lead sheet, or MIDI automation. This preference saves per song, so your lead sheet songs open to the lead sheet view and your chord songs open to chords.

Pro users can generate chord sheets from plain text using AI:

  1. Open a song
  2. Tap Generate Chord Sheet
  3. Paste or type lyrics
  4. AI analyzes the harmonic structure and adds chord markers in bracket notation

AI can also look up lyrics automatically via MusicBrainz, and infer metadata like key, tempo, and time signature from text.
